Relinquish Fear

May 27, 2007

I keep thinking back to that ferry crossing last week and how many lesson I learned in that short space of time!

One of the others in our party emailed today and commented on how 'steadfast and solid' I seemed to be when he (and everyone else) was being tossed about the place - and he's right!

I felt solid as a rock in the midst of that storm and, looking back, I can now see that the people who were battered and thrown about the most were the very people who were trying the hardest not to be!

It may seem like a total paradox, but it's a great metaphor for handling change or weathering any kind of storm. If you steel yourself and try to stay rigid and unmoving, as soon as you meet a force stronger than you are, you will lose your balance!

If, on the other hand, you bend and sway and 'roll with the punches' you can hold onto that balance, no matter what happens.

I'm learning a lot recently about being soft and yielding in all situations and using the energy of an (apparent) adversary - like the storm - to my advantage - and it's powerful stuff!!

You really have to relinquish fear. (I'm reluctant to say 'overcome' because that implies that you have to 'do' something, but it's more of a release and a 'not doing', if that makes any sense?)

Once you relinquish your fear, nothing can harm you - everything is OK.

Try it the next time you meet a challenge!

You'll be amazed at the results.
